National Ambulance Launches Video to Attract UAE Youth to Join its Emirati EMT Programme 2019-2020

Film focuses on noble role of EMTs in saving lives and supporting the community

Abu Dhabi, March 19, 2019:  National Ambulance today launched a promotional video to encourage UAE Nationals to join its Emirati Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Programme for the academic year 2019-2020. The video supports National Ambulance’s efforts in reaching out to the community and encouraging young Emiratis to apply for the one-year training programme to get the opportunity to work in the vital emergency ambulance sector and serve their nation with National Ambulance. The video will also be shown across local media, social media platforms and VOX Cinemas, the official advertising partner of the programme for the third consecutive year, across the country.

The programme provides a professional qualification in pre-hospital care and a guaranteed offer of a job at National Ambulance to those successfully completing it. Registration for the programme, which is being delivered in partnership with the University of Sharjah (UOS), has already opened and will be running until 14 April. Four open days have also been organised for applicants. The programme has already doubled in size since it began and will continue to expand to serve the community in the Northern Emirates into the future.

Eng. Hussein Al Harthi, Chairman of National Ambulance, stressed the importance of sustaining the programme, which is a strategic objective for National Ambulance’s continuous contribution to provide the emergency pre-hospital care sector with UAE trained and qualified emergency medical professionals and support them with all tools to enable them to fulfil their duties and serve their nation. Al Harthi also confirmed National Ambulance’s commitment to support and enhance the joint efforts taken to achieve an integrated health care system at a global level in line with the priorities of the UAE National Vision 2021.

Ahmed Saleh Al Hajeri, Deputy CEO of National Ambulance, said: “This year’s video highlights to the UAE community the important role Emergency Medical Technicians have in society and the noble values they represent. It also reflects the human aspects of the profession of the EMT and the personal satisfaction achieved by those involved, especially after saving the lives of others.”

Al Hajeri added: We intend to take in a larger number of Emirati students than ever and we hope this video encourages qualified UAE Nationals to apply and join our programme. We are committed to providing the nation with qualified Emirati emergency medical professionals who are well-prepared to work in this vital sector and serve their communities in line with UAE Leadership’s vision to promote careers for local people in critical sectors, such as the health service.

Now into its third year, the programme aims to attract 50 Emirati students and provide them with knowledge and work skills in accordance with an innovative teaching methodology that adopts the best international academic and training methods to train and prepare them to serve on the frontline in support of the community.  The new course will commence in September and take place over the 2019-2020 academic year at the University of Sharjah’s Faculty of Medicine - Clinical and Surgical Training Center.

Candidates are accepted in the programme according to a set of criteria where candidates must be a UAE National, be at least 18 years of age and not over 35, have completed UAE National Service (for male applicants), have a high school diploma or equivalent, have good command of English, pass the selection interview, and have or are in process of applying for a UAE Driving License.

The full-time programme offers UAE Nationals the opportunity to gain the theoretical knowledge and practical experience necessary to take up a full-time position as an EMT with National Ambulance. The programme consists of three modules: a ‘Foundation’ module handled by the University of Sharjah; a ‘Core’ module based on international academic curriculum and an ‘Operations’ module based on practical training and in field rotations managed and led by National Ambulance.

They can apply online until 14 April or submit their application in person by attending any of the open day interviews National Ambulance will be organising at the University of Sharjah from 9 am to 4 pm on the following days: April 2-4, April 7-9, April 16-18.

National Ambulance provides emergency pre-hospital care in the Northern Emirates through the dedicated 998 emergency ambulance number and smart application. Its primary task is to handle public medical emergency response and provide high standards of emergency pre-hospital care to citizens, residents and visitors across the Emirates of Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al-Khaimah and Fujairah.
