27 May 2025, Abu Dhabi: National Ambulance has launched its yearly "Safe Summer… Be Prepared" campaign aimed at raising public awareness about essential safety and prevention measures during the summer months, and enabling community members to enjoy the season safely, responsibly, and with greater awareness.
The campaign reflects National Ambulance’s ongoing commitment to promoting a culture of emergency readiness and enhancing public preparedness. Through social media informative videos and posts, the campaign provides practical tips on how to respond effectively to summer-related emergencies until specialized emergency teams arrive, thereby contributing to overall public safety.
This year’s campaign addresses a range of key topics related to individual safety in hot weather conditions, including heatstroke prevention, hydration, sun protection, safe exercise during hot weather, and beach and pool safety. It also offers beach and pool safety tips, emphasizing the importance of supervising children near water at all times, adhering to safety guidelines during water sports, and knowing how to deal with jellyfish stings.
Summer Safety Tips and Precautions
National Ambulance advises the public to keep the following key preventive measures and precautions in mind to enjoy a safe summer:
- Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day and avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
- Wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect yourself from harmful UV rays when outdoors.
- Limit outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when temperatures are at their highest.
- Opt for shaded areas or indoor spaces for workouts, and schedule outdoor exercise during the cooler parts of the day.
- Never leave children unattended in vehicles, as cars can become dangerously hot quickly.
- In any medical emergency, call 998 immediately to receive help from specialized medics.
Beach and Pool Safety:
- Be cautious and follow safety instructions around the pool and beach.
- Check the weather forecast to ensure safe swimming conditions. Swim only in licensed and safe spots where attentive lifeguards are available and in safe weather conditions.
- Parents or caregivers must never leave children unattended or without a life jacket.
- Use appropriate life jackets and safety equipment when participating in water sports to minimize risks.
- Be cautious when swimming in areas with jellyfish. In case of a sting, rinse with seawater or vinegar and seek medical help if required.
- Never attempt to save someone drowning or in distress by jumping into the water. Immediately inform the lifeguard and call 999 (Police), 997 (Civil Defense), 996 (Coast Guard), and 998 (Ambulance). You can assist by throwing a life ring or using a long object like a stick to bring them to safety.
The "Safe Summer… Be Prepared" campaign is part of National Ambulance’s commitment to promote a culture of prevention, education, and preparedness within the community. As a yearly initiative, it will continue to keep the public informed about essential safety practices and protect community health during the hottest months of the year.
